Soil Scientist/Soil Agronomist
The Amalgamated Sugar Company LLC – Paul, Idaho

The Amalgamated Sugar Company LLC is seeking a Soil Scientist/Soil Agronomist to be a part of the Sugar Beet Quality Improvement Department (SBQI) team located in the Paul ID/Burley ID area. This position will lead research efforts to improve the understanding of fertility and fertility recommendations in sugarbeets including designing and conducting fertility research to improve and further refine best management practice recommendations for Grower Members. The position also includes participation in other SBQI trials and projects. The candidate will develop and maintain a working knowledge of the latest agronomic practices related to all aspects of growing, harvesting and storing sugarbeets. The candidate must have experience in statistics and replicated small plot research. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision, communicate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team, and have strong customer service skills. The candidate will need to work collaboratively with the university, USDA-ARS and other researchers/staff to achieve the highest impact and quality sugarbeet research.
Qualified candidates need to be dynamic and need to be able to work successfully in a fast paced, fluid environment.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Communicate and cooperate with all District Agricultural Managers and staff to improve cultural practices, leading to increased production and/or reduce costs of growing while improving the quality of the sugarbeets.

• Develop educational products and presentations for a wide range of audiences.

• Contribute both as an individual and as a team member with ideas and efforts.

• Manage part-time/temporary and/or full-time employees.

• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Soil Science, Agronomy or related field with an emphasis in soil related subjects (fertility, etc.).
• Minimum five (5) years of work related experience.
• Must have demonstrated the ability to work with growers.
• Must be able to write, speak and understand English.
• Ability to work within and enjoy a team-based environment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a vehicle and equipment.
• Must possess or obtain and maintain all applicable State Consultant/Applicator License(s).
• Must be willingly and able to obtain and maintain a CDL.
• Certified Crop Advisor certification desirable.
• Specialization in Sustainable Agriculture desirable.
