National Sugar Marketing LLC is searching for a competent and experienced Quality Assurance Specialist to join our team. This is an exempt salaried position that reports to the Vice President of Quality with daily supervision from the Food Safety System Specialist. In this role, the successful applicant will be responsible for assisting NSM’s quality assurance department through the coordination of quality assurance and food safety programs of our Member Partners and for providing technical, consultative services to our customers.
Essential responsibilities of this role include coordinating with the Vice President of Quality, Food Safety System Specialist, and Partner Quality Assurance to ensure partner facilities comply with applicable FDA regulations, meet customer-defined expectations, and meet NSM’s standards for quality in accordance with the Company Food Safety & Quality Policy. This position is also responsible for a high level of internal and external customer service by providing customers with supplier-approval information, technical expertise, complaint resolution, and providing Partners with quality-related recommendations for improvement.
Success in this position is dependent on the candidate’s ability to act as a professional leader while working cooperatively with Partner Quality Assurance and other departments. The successful candidate should also be dynamic, self-motivated, and able to work both individually and in a team environment.
Additional Responsibilities:

• Satisfy customer documentation needs by managing various quality-related software portals.

• Assist in the customer approval process of Partner facilities by completing supplier approval information/documentation requests.

• Coordinate with Partner Quality Assurance Management to assist in efforts to standardize quality-related documentation, including company policy, specifications, and standard operating procedures. Provide support with periodic reviews of quality documentation and programs.

• Assist Partners with customer complaint management, root cause analysis, and complaint resolution.

• Participate in internal audits as required for BRC and SQF certification standards and periodically conduct second-party audits of contact manufactures and warehouses.

• Actively participate in Partner quality assurance meetings.

• Collect, analyze, and trend quality metrics.

• Keep up on standards, regulations, and industry issues concerning product quality (including, but not limited to FSMA, FDA, SQF, and BRC).

• Report to top management on the performance of the Food Safety & Quality Program as needed.

• Function as an alternate to the Food Safety System Specialist and Vice President of Quality when required.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Technical Communication, related field or a combination of work experience and education providing the skills necessary to be successful in the position.
• This position requires a minimum of five years in a quality assurance role.
• Preventive Controls Qualified Individual certification or the ability to achieve certification within six months of hire.
• Considerable knowledge of Codex Alimentarius Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) methodology, certification preferred.
• Knowledge of internal auditing techniques, certification preferred.
• High-level communication skills, including written and verbal communication.
