The Amalgamated Sugar Company LLC is seeking a Manager of Sugarbeet Quality Improvement to drive strategy, leadership and direction in agricultural research such that the Cooperative’s strategic initiatives (1) raising average beet quality lab sugar content to 18% and (2) reducing farm-to-factory losses by 30%, are accomplished by the end of 2020. Lead the development and implementation of sugarbeet research projects that will add value for the Grower/Members of Snake River Sugar Company. These projects include agronomy and sugarbeet pathology research, sugarbeet fertility and storage research, new agricultural technologies, and other projects as determined.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, direct and maintain all Amalgamated Agricultural research programs such as sugarbeet seed variety trials, disease nurseries, and agronomic field research.

• Responsible for monitoring and reporting on sugarbeet pests and disease that threaten the financial health of the Cooperative and Growers.

• In collaboration with Cooperative leadership, help develop strategies and policy to prevent sugarbeet pest and disease from impacting the financial health of the Cooperative and Growers.

• Ensure to the extent possible, that funded external research projects are aligned with the company’s strategic objectives.

• Responsible for production of annual Research Field Days, ensuring transparency and collaboration with the Grower/Members.

• Provide leadership, education and outreach to the District Agriculture Manager’s and staff for agronomy services and education.

• Develop comprehensive “onboarding” agronomy program for crop consultant’s new to the sugarbeet industry.

• Responsible for developing the agenda and relevant education for Agriculture Department Symposiums.

• Annually publish a compilation of relevant internal/external research projects in a manner that is tangible and usable for SRSC Grower/Members.

• Lead the publication of the Sugarbeet Magazine and Sugarbeet Grower’s Guide Book

• Represent Amalgamated as an advisor and voting member on the Snake River Sugarbeet Research and Seed Alliance LLC.

• Coordinate with the State Department of Agriculture and chemical companies for the registration of agricultural chemicals for use on sugarbeets.

• Keep abreast of the development, testing, registration status, and potential use of genetically enhanced sugarbeet seed.

• Stay current on developments in the fields of fertility, insecticides, herbicides, rhizomania, and nematodes.

• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:
• Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Plant Pathology, Agronomy or Soil Science is required;
• Relevant agricultural work experience may be considered in lieu of advanced graduate degree;
• Minimum ten (10) year’s work-related experience
