At a lunch event hosted at the Twin Falls Amalgamated Sugar factory on January 27, 2020, the Company presented a check for $2,500 to Habitat for Humanity of the Magic Valley. The donation is part of a new program at Amalgamated Sugar in which, upon reaching safety milestones at a factory, the Company will donate to the charitable organization of that factory’s choice.

Recently, the Twin Falls factory achieved 250,000 hours without a recordable injury. The factory was awarded $2,500 to donate as they chose, and a committee of employees at the Twin Falls factory selected Habitat for Humanity of the Magic Valley.

“We attribute this success to the people on the floor of the factory, who are working each and every day to make Amalgamated Sugar a safe place to work,” said Jorge Devarona, the previous Plant Manager for the Twin Falls factory, who is now Manager of Process Technology. “This program is another way that we can give back to the community and emphasize that ‘Safety is How We Do Business.’”

Habitat for Humanity of the Magic Valley is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes, by advocating for fair and just housing policies and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity of the Magic Valley supports the vision that everyone deserves a safe place to live.

The employees of the Twin Falls factory are grateful for the opportunity to give back to a local cause that they support. “As a team we will continue to better our safety culture to strive to have every teammate return home to their families the same way as they left them,” said Ron Story, President of the BCTGM Local 283 Union. “This will help us strive for future goals and have a purpose to continue to enhance our safety culture.”
