Amalgamated Sugar will be donating approximately 3,250 four-pound bags of sugar to southern Idaho and eastern Oregon charities.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made clear the importance of and need for food security. Food banks and other hunger relief efforts are seeing high demand as COVID-19 related closures increase the number of people in need.

“Amalgamated Sugar has a critical role to play; providing food security and availability,” said John McCreedy, President & CEO of Amalgamated Sugar. “Our commitment to the community will remain strong during these challenging times.”

The sugar will be distributed from central locations in the Treasure and Magic Valleys. Each factory location will determine which charities the sugar will be donated to.

“We’re happy to be supporting our most valuable assets during this difficult time.  Our employees, our growers, and those in need in our communities”, said Chris Mapes, Director of Warehouses & Logistics at Amalgamated Sugar, who is orchestrating the donation deliveries. “It reminds us that we are all in this together – we have to support each other.”

In addition to these charitable donations, Amalgamated Sugar will also be providing 2,115 four-pound bags of sugar which will be given to employees and Snake River Sugar Company sugarbeet growers.

Altogether, 10.74 tons of sugar will be given to charity, employees and sugarbeet growers.

Amalgamated Sugar believes that we can all do our part to minimize the impact of COVID-19. By working with and taking care of one another, we will come out on the other side of this pandemic a stronger community.
